WHO WE ARE
MORE THAN SHELTER
JOIN OUR COMMUNITY
Opening in 1990 as Immanuel Baptist Shelter, the Emergency Shelter has served as New Haven's only walk-in shelter for males since its nascence. With 75 beds, it plays a critical role in housing those with immediate shelter needs.
The shelter's motto, "compassion without questions" rests at the heart of the organization's work. But beyond unconditional dignity, the shelter aims to provide innovative and effective resources for residents. The shelter empowers residents to strategize and get back on their feet.
We see homelessness as a temporary condition that involves the entire community, and our space as a place of learning, empowerment, and human connection for all. We welcome volunteers to come help us serve or provide more inventive community events and programs with the residents.
